We are seeking individuals with an aerospace background for multiple Aerospace Engineer positions, primarily working with propulsion. Both electric propulsion and chemical liquid propulsion positions are being sought, and experience in both areas is highly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree or doctorate with relevant research, while industry experience is preferred. Duties will include helping to design flight hardware for propulsion systems, modeling of electric and chemical thrusters’ performance and survivability, testing those thrusters, and analyzing results of thruster tests. Versatility, self-motivation, and broad technical interests are all desirable qualities for this position. Position may also include technical leadership of research and development programs. Description of Responsibilities: Career position, advanced chemical research in the evaluation, characterization, and interaction of energetic propellant or gas generator formulations with propulsion systems. Application development of novel energetic ingredients or mixtures for the commercial space or energy sector as well as qualification of those materials for pilot scale studies, fieldability, delivery, and storability, are also a significant part of duties and responsibilities.
The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in chemistry, physics, or chemical engineering plus a track record of successes related to the aerospace, propulsion or chemical energetics field. Five years experience in the industrial sector is desired. Prudent lab practice with energetic ingredients and formulations is a must. Additional applicable skills desired include knowledge of quality assurance or quality control protocols, statistical experimentation techniques, ISO 9001 quality management, analytical chemistry and instrumentation as well as chemical synthesis.
Applicants must be a US citizen and lawful permanent resident or protected person as defined by 8 USC 1324b(a)(3), in order to perform or direct work at DSSP that supports space technology or defense-related contracts that must conform to technology export regulation.
• Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Chemistry or a directly related field is required.
• 0-5 years’ experience with energetic materials in an appropriate setting
• Demonstrated track record in research of novel compounds or formulations, and their characterization
• Hands-on experience in a chemical laboratory utilizing personal protective equipment appropriate to task and materials
• Communication skills, written and spoken, must clearly convey technical aspects of findings to internal teams and external customers
