Sawka and DSSP help things blow up in movies and help keep things safe in space. The company’s indoor electric pyrotechnic eSquibs allow special-effects producers to create multiple explosions (like bullet shots) from one device. The product took the top prize for best new special-effects product at this year’s Live Design International show. Earlier in 2014, DSSP’s electric propellant was the first energetic material ever to be allowed on the International Space Station. A satellite using the propellant was deployed on Nov. 29.
